BOXING SASKATCHEWAN PLANNING SESSION

With direction from SaskSport, Boxing Saskatchewan will have a planning session on September 29, 2018 in Regina at the Sask Sport board room, 1860 Lorne St. Session starts at 9:00 am. These planning sessions take place every 3 to 4 years and help our organization to establish objectives, goals and plans. All member clubs are urged to attend the session. Boxing Sask will cover cost of attending.

MAP GRANTS PROVIDE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO BOXING CLUBS

Each year MAP grant funds are available to all Boxing Saskatchewan member clubs. Very few clubs take advantage of these finances and the number one reason why is because clubs don’t have an official registered through their club. Team Saskatchewan at Nationals

In April, Team Saskatchewan consisting of Thomas Gordon, Quinn Neald, Preston Lachance and Val Valenculiak competed at the Canadian Amateur Boxing Championships. Preston in his first National Championship drew what many considered the toughest opponent in his weight class and lost his first bout against a formidable opponent. Val lost a close bout in a split decision prior to the medal round. Thomas Gordon competed very well and as he did last year, won the silver medal in the Junior C 70kg category. Results from the National Boxing Championships 81Kg  Valentyn Vanchuliak lost a very close decision to Harley-David O'Reilly from Quebec 63Kg Thomas Gordon defeated Loukeins Mallette from Quebec. Thomas' next opponent will be Josh Lauriente from BC Day 3-63Kg Thomas Gordon defeated Josh Lauriente from B.C. by Unanimous Decision. Thomas boxes for GOLD on Friday against Kyle Oliver of Alberta. Day 4  Thomas Gordon won the SILVER MEDAL in the 63Kg Junior C Category. CONGRATULATIONS Thomas on your fine showing at your first National Championships

BRAMPTON CUP

Boxing Saskatchewan would like to congratulate Logan Goodwill who won a silver medal in the 60Kg Junior C Open category at the Brampton Cup in Brampton, Ont. held on February 5-7. Congratulations as well to Thomas Gordon for his fine showing at the Brampton Cup. Thomas boxed in the 60Kg Junior B Open category.

Headgear Update

The official ruling concerning the wearing of headgear during a competition is: Elite Male Open Boxers will not wear headgear. Elite Male Novice Boxers, who have 10 or less bouts can choose to wear headgear as long as both boxers wear headgear. If one boxers wants to wear headgear, then both boxers must wear headgear.
